It has been determined that the use of amitraz as a miticide for use in beehives, according to the GAP specified above, is very unlikely to pose any health risks from consumption of the harvested commodity.
Yep,
maar ik kom toch ook tegen:
Amitraz is a fat-soluble compound which is not very stable in honey. It degrades almost completely into several decomposed metabolites after 3-4 weeks. Amitraz is readily hydrolysed under the exposure to sunlight (UV exposure) and low pH. In addition, solution properties such as ionic strength, temperature and solubility affects the stability of amitraz. Amitraz hydrolyses through a series of intermediate compounds to form the environmentally stable compound 2,4-dimethylaniline (2,4-DMA), which is mutagenic, oncogenic and genotoxic. The degradation of amitraz to stable aniline products may contribute significantly to the environmental and health risks of this pesticide`s application and use (Osano et al., 2002; Brimecombe and Limson, 2007). Although potential carcinogenicity of amitraz can not be totally dismissed because of the mutagenic/carcinogenic metabolite, 2, 4 dimethylaniline (in vitro evidence only), the tumor data for amitraz are not very compelling.
