"Apilarnil" is another very important natural product obtained from the bee colony.
The discoverer was a very famous Romanian beekeeper, Mr. Nicolae Iliesiu.
The word "Apilarnil" comes from:
• API = the bee's Latin name
• LAR = larvae
• N = the first letter from the inventor's first name (Nicolae)
• IL = the first two letters from the inventor's family (last) name (ILIESIU).
This product is an extract of the whole content of 7 day old drone larvae comb cells.
These comb cells contains:
• Drone larvae (6-7 days old);
• Specific nutrients for these larvae (larval food, honey, bee bread);
• Traces of propolis etc.
From this "composition" we can conclude that apilarnil can be referred to as the "male" side of royal jelly.
How can apilarnil be obtained?
Apilarnil is obtained by extracting all the above "items" from the special drone larvae comb cells followed by:
• Trituration (crushing, grinding)
• Homogenisation
• Filtration
• Lyophilisation
Only after the above mentioned processing can apilarnil be stored and/or used properly.
History of Apilarnil
Over 30 years ago, being at his parents' home, in a small Romanian village, Mr. Iliesiu heard an almost incredible story from his beekeeper neighbour. What was it all about?
This neighbour had raised ducks for many years having acquired considerable experience and using very good techniques. However, he had observed in that spring that his new small ducks were growing much faster than those raised in previous years. He was puzzling over the reason for this, and finally it occurred to him that the only difference was that in that year, he had fed the small ducks with drone larvae from his bee colonies..
This story would have been probably forgotten if it had not been witnessed by another person.
Fortunately, he understood immediately that this was a remarkable discovery!
He thought, based on simple but compelling logic: " that if the ducks have grown so quickly, maybe the same thing will happen if I feed other animals with drone larvae, and then why not human beings!"
So, Mr. Iliesiu started what was to become the most important phase of his life: to study, prove and use everything related to the drone larvae extract. He succeeded in getting the support of an incredible number of people for that time: first the political leaders, than most of the Romanian beekeepers who were disciplined members of the Romanian Beekeeping Association.
After he obtained a steady supply of "apilarnil" he started, with the assistance of an "army" of researchers, medical doctors, biochemists, pharmacists etc., to study its:
• Characteristics
• Composition
• Pharmacological properties
• Indications
• General uses
• Counter-indications
• Posology (administration)
• Preparations and Products etc., etc.
Based on the above studies, together with many researchers he has registered over 25 inventions.
His products have been sold not only in Romania, but also in other countries.
Mr. Iliesiu has also presented his findings at many of the Apimondia Congresses.
The main results of his findings will be discussed later, in detail, in our course.
It is important to keep in mind that apilarnil is:
• a complex extract having drone larvae as its main constituent
• an excellent food for all living beings, including humans
• very rich in male-like hormones
One other extremely important benefit is that apilarnil production can also be one of the alternative solutions in diminishing the varroa mite populations by using the drone combs to capture the mites and thus remove them from the hive…
In other words, as a Romanian proverb says, "with one shot one can get two rabbits"…
